“I simply want our songs to be there when someone needs it.

Whether that’s on a regular basis or once a year.

All that matters to me is that it helped you get through something
or enhanced a moment you’d want to remember forever.”

I lived and studied in Melbourne, Australia for six months.
it was arguably the best time of my life
(and I’ll never stop talking about it)

I met some amazing people and I heard some amazing stories.
here are just a few.

personal little epilogue

So this was just a way for me to “encapsulate” my exchange program experience. It wasn’t about the whole idea of “studying abroad! doing whatever you want! you’re in college!” as much for me, as it was to make human connections and to put some roots down in a place, if you will. To get to know a city, you get to know the locals.

Before going to Melbourne and meeting Monii, Diane, and Jay — I had no idea that there was such a growing movement that centered around music and dance in Melbourne. After being fully immersed in these experiences, I’m absolutely hooked. It made me realize there was so much more that I haven’t explored or even tried to explore. I know that it sounds so college, but my exchange abroad was just such a life-changing and eye-opening experience for me. Some of my values changed, the way I approach situations and people became noticeably different, and I’ve never felt more myself. This is probably the “finding yourself” plug that every college kid says one time or another. I’m even more confident and excited to leap into post-grad plans, and to learn as much as I can from all the experiences and opportunities I get to have from now on.

Of course, Monii, Diane, and Jay were not the only people I was fortunate enough to meet and become friends with. I had this idea to do the mini series right before I left — which was also awful timing for many. I’m sad I couldn’t fully interview and photograph those I wanted to, but I’ll get to it on the next trip back! :’)

A little special shoutout to those that also made my experience in Melbourne so amazing: Eunice, Nicole, Eldrick, P’Nak, Matthew, Tae, Annie, Sophie, Stephanie, Andrew, Jonathan — thank you guys for being so nice and welcoming. I’ve said thank you about a million times but truly, from the bottom of my heart, probably not for the last time, thank you. Ya girl is feelin’ the nostalgia.
Also, if you got this far in the post — thank YOU. I hope you know you made my day. I’ll know you read it, because I’ll most likely check the analytics. Alright. Okay.

Issa wrap. Goodnight.
